Game context
The Chicago Cubs enter this series with a 71-50 record and strong momentum in the NL Central race, sitting just three games behind the division-leading Brewers after reaching 20 games above .500. They have taken the first two games from the Nationals at Nationals Park, including a 12-6 win on August 12 that showcased offensive firepower and bullpen reliability. The Nationals, at 59-63 and 14.5 games back in the NL East, continue to search for consistency amid a middling campaign. Recent form, home/road splits, and starting pitching matchups shape trader consensus around the Cubs holding a clear edge, though late-season roster health and bullpen availability remain variables that could influence outcomes in the finale.
