Canadian Open: Zachary Svajda vs Denis Shapovalov

Game context
Denis Shapovalov enters as the clear favorite against Zachary Svajda in this first-round Canadian Open matchup on Montreal hard courts, buoyed by home-crowd support at IGA Stadium and a higher ATP ranking near No. 43 compared to Svajda’s position around No. 87. Shapovalov brings substantial experience at the event, including a prior semifinal run, while arriving with recent competitive play including a Los Cabos final appearance. Svajda has posted an 8-10 record in 2026 with mixed hard-court results, most recently falling in Washington, though his solid Challenger pedigree and straight-set wins keep upset potential alive in a debut head-to-head. Trader consensus reflects these edges plus Shapovalov’s overall pedigree on the surface, tempered by his inconsistent 2026 win rate near 46 percent and the inherent variability of early-round ATP encounters.
