Game context
The St. Louis Cardinals enter the series finale at Citi Field riding a six-game winning streak and 7-3 mark over their last ten contests, sitting at 37-28 and just 3.5 games back in the NL Central. New York, mired at 29-38 and 15.5 games out in the NL East, has absorbed consecutive lopsided losses including a 9-2 defeat on June 10. The Mets continue to manage a depleted roster with Francisco Lindor, Jorge Polanco, and Clay Holmes on the injured list, forcing expanded roles for players such as Brett Baty. St. Louis has also posted strong recent road results, while New York seeks to avoid a sweep and generate momentum heading into the middle of June.
