Game context

The Philadelphia Phillies (40-34) enter the four-game series at Nationals Park as the stronger NL East contender, sitting seven games behind the division-leading Braves while the host Washington Nationals (39-36) occupy third place. Jesús Luzardo is slated to start the opener for Philadelphia, bringing a mid-4.00 ERA into a matchup against a Nationals lineup that has shown improved home form this season. Both clubs remain within striking distance of the wild-card picture, making recent pitching health, bullpen reliability, and divisional positioning the primary drivers of trader focus ahead of the series.
