Paraguay vs. France - First Team to Score
Game context
France enters the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 matchup against Paraguay as overwhelming favorites, reflected in the 84% implied probability they score first. Their elite attacking depth, pace in transition, and consistent ability to break down compact defenses position them to dominate early possession and create high-quality chances. Paraguay reached this stage via a dramatic penalty-shootout upset over Germany but face a steep talent and organizational gap against a side expected to control tempo and territory. The 12.5% probability for Paraguay scoring first accounts for their defensive resilience and counter-threat potential, while the low 4.5% on neither scoring first aligns with the anticipated open, high-event nature of the contest at Lincoln Financial Field on July 4.
