Game context
Both teams sit near the middle of the NL Central standings, with the Pirates holding a slight edge at 38-37 or 38-38 compared to the Reds at 35-38 or 35-39. Cincinnati enters the three-game set at PNC Park without shortstop Elly De La Cruz (hamstring) and third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) on the injured list, thinning their infield options and lineup depth. Pittsburgh has benefited from stronger recent home results and power production in prior matchups this season. Pitching health, bullpen reliability, and how the clubs manage rest amid a crowded schedule will shape outcomes in this interleague-style divisional series.
